2023 Preview
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse - 2018’s Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse was a game changer in so many ways – in its pioneering animation style, in its big-screen representation of Miles Morales, and in its supremely clever narrative mastery of the ever-complicated multiverse. We get the first word on the two-part sequel, the first half of which is out in June 2023, from returning producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Prepare for the game to be changed all over again.
Creed III - The third instalment in the Creed franchise is bringing something new to the ring – with Michael B. Jordan stepping up to direct for the first time. Empire asks him about what it’s like to direct himself, working with Jonathan Majors, and how he’s pulling no punches, even from behind the camera.
Babylon - A heads up – with Babylon, director Damien Chazelle is gearing up to throw more Hollywood hedonism at your eyeballs than you’ve ever seen before. There are elephants. There are alligators. There are many, many bodily fluids. We speak to Chazelle, plus stars Margot Robbie, Diego Calva and more, about the 1920s movie-making epic.
Cate Blanchett - Cate Blanchett has embodied queens, elves, Marvel villains and more, and with TÁR, she flexes her ever-impressive acting muscles as a fictional composer, who is as bound as she is boosted by her genius. In a major new interview and exclusive photoshoot, shot by Mary McCartney at the iconic Abbey Road Studios, we ask just how she continues to astonish and amaze.
James Cameron - Avatar: The Way Of Water is now a matter of weeks away, and, as with every James Cameron release, it’s set to be huge. We thought the director deserved a feature of the same magnitude, so we asked a whole host of Hollywood’s finest to pose questions for the mastermind behind some of the medium’s biggest ever movies. Read his answers to the A-listers’ most burning questions, on topics including his inspiration for Avatar, his writing process, his love for love stories, and more.
Empire Of Light - With his romantic drama – and love letter to cinema – Empire Of Light arriving in January, Empire speaks to director Sam Mendes all about his life at the movies, creating a tribute to the medium that made him, standout moments of his career so far, and just what makes going to the cinema quite so special.
