San Francisco musician Glenn Donaldson's third album, "Uncommon Weather," was released on April 9, 2021. The album is a self-portrait of a songwriter who has dispatched another treasured collection of timeless sounding DIY-pop songs. The consistent sound of these 13 songs is hewn from an idealized day somewhere in the anorak '80s. Conscious nostalgia becomes a filter for present situations, and aesthetic limitations allow room for the refinement of modest blissful moments. The album does not overly romanticize and proffers a kind of cushioned snark on tracks like "The Biggest Fan" and "I'm Sorry About Your Life." The album is focused and melodic, sounding like a greatest-hits collection as song after song digs deep below the surface of heartache to uncover yet another painful memory or feeling.
